Chinese Giant Salamander
The Chinese giant salamander (Andrias
davidianus) is fully aquatic yet has no gills! This salamander has the ability to absorb
oxygen from the water through its skin.
It boasts the claim to fame of being one of the largest salamanders as
well as one of the largest amphibians in the world.
Chinese giant salamanders are indigenous to the Yangtze river basin in China. It can grow up to 5.9 feet. It has an average lifespan of 60 years or more in captivity.
