Sample Cover Letters for Teachers

A teacher’s letter of intent is a cover letter that is sent to potential school districts for current or upcoming job opportunities. Usually, a resume accompanies the cover letter. A teacher’s letter of intent should not be longer than one page and should include four or five brief paragraphs. The paragraphs should outline the position for which the person is applying, job credentials, special skills, and teaching philosophy. The letter should be written using a formal business style and addressed to a specific individual. Additionally, the letter of intent needs to reflect how the potential employer can follow up to schedule an interview with the applicant.

Dear Ms. Doe:

I am writing to express my interest in any job openings in Woodside High School’s English program. I believe that you will find me a dedicated and motivated educator. Please find my resume enclosed.

My resume will reflect the many opportunities I have taken to further my education and increase my teaching ability. After receiving my Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Virginia, I became state certified in teaching English grades 9-12. I am also working towards my Master’s Degree in Special Education.

As a well-rounded educator, I love to show my students the joy of literature. Through different reading and writing activities, I strive to teach students that there is a direct link between studying literature and everyday life. I implement these activities with a direct and decisive teaching style that still responds to the continuing needs of my students.

I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your school and how I can become a part of it. I can be reached at (555) 555-5555 and susan.smith@email.com. Please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you.

Very respectfully,
Susan Smith
